Story
October is very closely tied to mental health for me. It is Depression Awareness month, and World Mental Health Day also falls on the 10th of October each year. It is also the anniversary of my first proper encounter with depression, back in 2022. I couldn't have chosen a more fitting month for this challenge.
I've worked a lot on myself, and have come a long way to realise the importance of walking for my mental health. While hoping to raise funds for Mind, it is also partially a selfish undertaking — to commit myself to taking action that will help my mental health. And through this semi-selfish act, I hope I will be able to help Mind, and the countless people whose mental health in turn benefits from it.
I’m taking on 90 miles in October for Mind — and every step is for someone who feels they’ve run out of options.
Right now, Mind’s phone lines are the busiest they’ve ever been. In the UK 1 in 4 of us will face a mental health problem this year, yet too many still wait in silence. Mind is often their only lifeline — on the phone, in local communities, and fighting for change so no one is left behind.
Please support my 90 miles in October challenge by donating to my fundraising page 🙏🏻
Your donation will ensure that information and support is available for everyone — on Mind's website, the helplines they run and throughout their online community, Side by Side.
Thank you 💙
