Story
John Matthews, the bell tower captain at Waltham-on-the-Wolds Church, and his wife Christine, are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary this spring. Last year, John was diagnosed with prostate cancer and has just successfully completed an 18 week course of chemotherapy.
To celebrate both of these events, John will be leading a team of bell ringers in a quarter peal attempt at 6pm on Friday 28th April.
The quarter peal will take approximately 45 minutes and will involve some 1260 changes rung in a predetermined sequence on the tower's six bells, a feat that will require skill, effort and concentration.
To support John and his team in making this attempt please make a donation to MacMillan Cancer Support.
After a bit of a false start a successful quarter peal of 1260 changes of Bob Doubles was rung between 6:25 pm and 7:10 pm on Friday 28th April by John (treble) Liz (2nd) Wendy (3rd) Maurice (4th) William (5th) and Martin (tenor).
Thank you for all your support.
