Story
The aim of Swiss Cottage School is to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment that focuses on progression rather than containment and that gives pupils the tools for independence in adulthood. All of the children attending the school have learning difficulties and additional disabilities, including communication, physical, emtional/behavioural, mental health and autistic spectrum disorders.
'A Perfect Day' street festival on the 13th of September, was a great success raising awareness of London's children with special needs. Live music, dance, fun fair, classic car show, children's farm, boutique stalls and trumpet fanfare by The King's Troop all added to the celebrations that transformed Avenue Road into a pedestrian-only zone for the day.
We now need to continue our campaign by raising the needed funds for Swiss Cottage Specialist SEN School.
Even with limited resources, this is one of the only schools , including mainstream that has been rated by Ofsted three times as "Outstanding", and is a leading example of best practice in special needs education, rated one of the best schools in the UK. It has become the London center for research, development and training in the special needs sector.
A Perfect Day was created by a few local Londoners who decided to take community needs into their own hands to raise the significant short-fall in government and council funding for 2010 and to support the institutes initiatives in research and development as a national centre of excellence.
We would be very grateful if you could join us in making the lives of these children and their families better by donating what you can.
Thank you.
