Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, it really does mean a lot, even more so if you're considering donating to my birthday charity event this year. To help persuade you about the cause, here are some details about the event. Any donation (big or small) is greatly appreciated and I'd love for you to help me spread the word.
The Challenge
This year on the 15th May (my birthday... 🎂 🥳), I will be participating in the Etape Caledonia 2022, aiming to raise funds for my incredible friend's charity, 3rd World Hope. If you are able to, I'd love if you could donate the equivalent of a pint (or even more...!) towards my birthday fundraiser, using the hashtag, #APintOfHope
Any and all support is welcome in the form of monetary donations, training partners, training playlists, moral support and even just sharing the page. In doing so, I hope to not only fundraise for an awesome charity in memory of my inspirational friend, but also raise awareness of this small charity and the amazing work they do.
The Etape Caledonia is a closed road sportive, starting and ending in Pitlochry. Along the way, it takes in the sights of Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch and even a Schehallion climb...eeeek! Training is most certainly required alongside a handful of grit and determination.
The Charity
3rd World Hope is a small, family run charity (so you can see exactly where your money is going!). It aims to provide relief of poverty to disadvantaged communities in Malawi. It does this by supplying sustainable resources such as shelter, clean water supply, land for growing food, educational materials, clothes, mosquito nets, blankets and so much more. The majority of funding is spent on feeding young, orphaned children and supporting the set up of self-sufficient businesses within the communities the charity supports.
My Incredible Friend
After returning home from exploring the world in 2007, Shaun was inspired to make a difference - and from this, 3rd World Hope was founded. I first met Shaun (and his equally incredible wife, Nicola), during a summer season in France in 2014. An unforgettable season, matched by the blossoming of an unforgettable friendship. From campfire beach nights, sailing, surfing, hill walking and the honour of singing at his wedding, I have many memories of our friendship that I will continue to cherish..
In February 2020, Shaun tragically lost his life in a road accident while delivering aid to one of the orphanages he set up in Malawi. It's never easy losing a close friend, especially one as selfless, caring, dedicated and kind-hearted as Shaun. His loss still leaves behind a massive void to anyone who was lucky enough to have known him. His unrivalled spirit of adventure, and a determination to make a difference have inspired me to take on this challenge. Caledonia Etape 2022. For Shaun. For 3rd World Hope. #APintOfHope
