We fund research and raise awareness of MND to help anyone touched by MND.

Story

Finally, we're able to do our annual charity cycle ride this September, 2021- 18 months after it was first scheduled.

Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends ……….

……. and welcome to our 10th annual (nearly) charity cycle fund raiser.

To date we’ve raised £125k for charities which have really meant something to ourselves, and with the tenth anniversary, it’s particularly appropriate the nominated charity is to one which we contributed in its first year of existence. Literally weeks after Doddie Weir, announced he was suffering from Motor Neuron Disease, and the setting up of My Name5 Doddie Foundation -  https://www.myname5doddie.co.uk/

Back in 2017 the September ride was Newcastle to Edinburgh, passing through Melrose, one of Doddies two rugby club sides, the other being Newcastle Falcons, where I saw him play many times.

His June announcement stunned our team of rugby fanatical riders and we decided to support his fledgling foundation.

The aims of the foundation are simple:

  • To raise funds to aid research into the causes of MND and investigate potential cures.
  • To make grants to individuals suffering from MND, to enable them to live as fulfilled a life as possible.

“My attitude is that you should do what you can today and worry about tomorrow when it comes. This is the card I’ve been dealt so I’ve just got to crack on.”  Doddie Weir

The 2021 ride is a continuation of the 2019 ride (Lochs and Glens South); imaginatively name Lochs and Glens North; Glasgow to Inverness via Callander, Pitlochry and Kingussie.

A total of 216 miles, with tough climbs on each day.

You can get details of the route at: https://www.sustrans.org.uk/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network/lochs-and-glens-north/

September 2021

  • Thursday 23     Glasgow to Callender     53 miles

  • Saturday 25      Pitlochry to Kingussie     44 miles
  • Sunday 26         Kingussie to Inverness   56 miles

The team..... Paul, Anita, Lee, Geoff, Daniel, Neil, Nick, Graham, Lynne, Ian, Graeme, Tyrone

I am very pleased to hear that this year's APL CCC cycle ride from Glasgow to Inverness will be supporting My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. Since our launch in November 2018, we have committed over £5million to MND research and have supported many others who are suffering from this disease. Your fundraising efforts will continue to support these areas and one day I hope that we will find a cure. Thank-you. Scott Hastings, Trustee, My Name5 Doddie Foundation.
