Despite my sarcasm and apparent reluctance I am in fact working pretty hard to run this mofo! I hate asking people for money, especially when this really is a personal challenge for me to tick off my bucket list! But I couldn't enter without a charity, so I've chosen one that I believe in, and I've kept the fundraising target as low as I can!

I have been a member of the sspca since I was about 7 years old. My first fundraising attempt for them was to cycle 100 times around the roundabout in my cul de sac, and I was so excited about making a contribution! Ah, the good old days before I was a professional cynic...

My commitment to this charity is not just because I hate humans. Which I do. But because people can be very dismissive of animal charities, and sentences for cruelty to animals are astonishing low. If your one of those people that prefers fellow humans, think about it this way: so often people who commit crimes against animals also commit crimes against humans. Sometimes animal cruelty is a training ground for proper evil people who go on to inflict harm on other vulnerable, defensless creatures, like children and the elderly. It deserves to be taken seriously for this reason alone.

Enough preach. I just wanted to tell you that I do actually care, and that this is important.

And yes, we are all asked to sponsor a tonne of people to go on various escapades around the world, and it's tiresome and it really mounts up. But, if your donation helps not just the charity in question, but your friend, the fundraiser, to be inspired to get off their arse and do something, maybe it's all just a jolly good thing after all xxx
