Hi everyone

As with many of the stupidest ideas, it started with a discussion in a pub and now, some months later, due to one of those present being annoyingly good at admin, it has unfortunately become a reality. 

While many of you will be doing something sensible like watching Wimbledon or, perhaps simply relaxing with friends and family, on 8th July, a group of 8 thirty somethings will be taking part in what is billed as the toughest one day endurance event in the UK.  Over the course of approximately 14 hours, we will each be attempting to:

No matter which way you cut it, it sounds miserable and particularly for a group of men who it is fair to say have yet to really ignite the world of endurance athletics…

There is only one reason why this particular group would put ourselves through this, and that is to raise money for the Peter Westropp Memorial Trust. As most of you will know, the Trust was founded to celebrate the memory of our great friend Peter and, in his name, to raise vital funds to support the 7 million unpaid carers across the UK. It is obviously a great cause and one which is very close to our hearts.

It is perhaps a slightly odd choice of event as Peter would definitely not have endorsed it.  Pete was many things, an endurance athlete was certainly not one of them - the event photo nicely illustrates what he brought to the sports field (in this case at a work sports day). We know….special.

It would be nice to think that we will be able to maintain a similar level of enthusiasm throughout 8th July, though despite having been in relatively intensive training for some months we would all settle for simply finishing in one piece!
