Batten disease is a group of rare, progressive neurodegenerative, genetic metabolic diseases that occur in children & adults worldwide. The BDFA's Vision is to be the central point of excellence in the UK for supporting affected families funding research into a potential cure.

Story

The Batten Disease Family Association (BDFA) helps support families who have been affected by Batten’s disease. This charity means a great deal to me as one of my best mates, George O’Connor, and his family are affected by it. I have known him since we started prep school together and growing up with him I have seen how his life, and that of his family, has been affected by Batten’s disease.

Having known him and his family for so long I felt it was my turn to step in and do my bit. George’s dad Mike is on a mission to reach the landmark of raising a total of £1 million for the BDFA over the course of the last ten years.

The ultimate aim is to try and help Mike reach this target to provide; family support, research, educational assistance, legal support, fundraising guidance, and most importantly someone to be there at diagnosis, among many more other positive things.

He is just £128,000 from reaching this astounding achievement. Our aim in this challenge is to make a significant impact into Mike’s efforts and push him ever closer to the great landmark.

This means a lot to me, as George is one of my oldest friends and I feel like we can really make a difference for George and his incredible family.

Thank you in advance for your kind donations.
