Story

Our amazing son Freddy tragically passed away in his sleep on August 19th 2021 and in loving and everlasting memory of Fred we will be planting a 100 tree blossom walk in SE London.  The route will go from Fred's home in Ladywell, over Hilly Fields and on to Telegraph Hill Upper Park.  It will then loop round to Brockley, over Blythe Hill Fields and back through Ladywell fields to complete a 5 mile circular walk.  At the three highest points of the walk there will be benches (Hilly Fields & Blythe Hill Fields) and a picnic bench (Telegraph Hill top park) as places to rest upon the route and look out over the London skyline.

This tree walk will cover Fred's stomping ground as he travelled between Ladywell and Telegraph Hill daily by foot, bike and bus. This 2 mile stretch of the walk also passes Fred’s schools, Fred's friends' houses and other places of significance in his life.

** 24 trees were planted in November 21 along the two mile stretch from Ladywell to Telegraph Hill and 45 are being planted in Nov 22 along the rest of the route.  The final 31 will then be planted in Nov 23 and by April 24 there will be 100 new blossom trees in Lewisham bursting into bloom along the 5 mile circular route**

We have chosen to plant 5 different types of tree. All will blossom each year around Fred's birthday on the 23rd April.

  • Great White Cherry (Prunus 'Tai-Haku')
  • Crab Apples (Malus 'Evereste')
  • Bird Cherry (Prunus Padus)
  • Snowdrop Tree (Halesia Carolina)
  • Kobus Magnolia

There will also be a Hornbeam (Carpinus Betulus) in each park as well as a couple of White Willows (Salix alba) and a couple of Black Poplar's (Poplus Nigra) in Ladywell Fields

These trees are subsidised by Lewisham council and cost £350 each to map, plant and care for. We would like to thank everyone who has donated generously so far to this living, growing, oxygen giving memorial to our wonderful, beautiful boy who meant so much to so many.

We still need to raise more funds for the final 31 trees that will be planted in November 23.  So if you would like to donate a leaf, twig, branch, trunk or dedicate a whole tree in Fred's memory please do so through this page.

Street Trees for Living is a registered charity so all donations can claim back 25% gift aid.

Thanks all and much love,

Arch, Em and Ivy xxxx ❤️🌳🌻🙏🏻
