Team Arcus successfully completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge on Saturday 4th July 2009. The 25 mile challenge began at 7.40am in the morning at the Pen-y-Ghent Café in Horton in Ribblesdale, when our intrepid team of 12 set off to climb the first peak, Pen-Y-Ghent (691m), we clambered onto the top at approx 9.15am and our initial impression that this would be a casual stroll in the countryside was severely miscalculated. We then walked across rolling fields and hills to reach the foot of the second peak - Whernside (728m). The weather was ideal, blue skies and fluffy white clouds until that is we reached Ingleborough (723m), when we were enveloped in a heavy rain cloud, turning the hard ground treacherous and slippy underfoot. However, spurred on by the thought of raising money for such a worthwhile cause all twelve members of our team completed the course within the allotted 12 hours.
Our guide for the challenge Jason and his wife Claire were amazing; making sure that we kept on track and were well watered and fed during key stages of the challenge. The team were both determined and very supportive of each other making the challenge both achievable and enjoyable.
