Barcelona Marathon · 6 March 2011
We do not pretend to be athletes.
The idea to run the Barcelona marathon was not a carefully thought out plan with a running regime and a food diet but more of a sudden stroke of insanity from Paddy. The Facebook conversation that resulted in our taking part is very much a blur but what is clear is that we have registered, we are in training and we would be absolutely over the moon if you could support us!
The marathon itself is 26.2 miles (we nearly wept) and will take place on March 6th. We do not know the exact route but we are aware that we will be going past the Nou Camp football stadium twice. As of this moment there is no exact time target but that will be discussed and agreed upon...people donating can influence this decision, for example by promising 'x' amount if we run under a certain time.
If you need more convincing to sponsor our Barcelona marathon then we would invite you to think of it in another way; by running a marathon we are putting ourselves at risk of some of the most painful ailments known to man. Scrot-rot, bleeding nipples and feet that turn to blisters go hand in hand with long distance running. A donation could therefore represent pity, amusement or the chance to settle old scores. All are welcome!
All jokes aside and it is because of one cause that we are hugely grateful for all donations; Marie Curie Cancer Care. To give the run more meaning the charity was chosen by a close mutual friend for whom the Marie Curie nurses were an incredible support and whose work cannot be praised enough. They provide home treatment and care for those with terminal cancer and other illnesses, ensuring that families can have some time to themselves in the knowledge that their loved ones are in the best possible hands. Please visit the charity box in the corner of the page and read more about the remarkable work done by the Marie Curie nurses and research team.
Though we run for this charity as a result of tragic circumstances, it gives us enormouse pride to try and make a difference.
Thank you so much for your generosity. Much marathon love, Dylan and Paddy
