My own battle with Bowel Cancer over recent years,  highlighted how services that Wessex Cancer Trust (WCT) provide are essential to the Isle of Wight.

My first involvement was when I needed to visit Southampton
General Hospital (SGH) for Chemo-radiotherapy. I had 26 treatments over 6 weeks plus visits with Oncologists etc.

When you get to Southampton off the Red Jet the free Wessex CT
Daisey mini-bus meets you (and companion) and takes you directly to SGH, the journey takes around 15-20 minutes.

The alternative is a taxis (£12 each way) or public
transport which is a 5 minute walk (for a fit person), wait and 40 minute bus journey , this can often equate to a total time of over 1 hour.

When you are feeling very poorly, knowing the Daisey Bus is
going to be there and the driver and other users are fully aware of what you are going through even more so during the pandemic, It is a massive comfort.

For some, the Daisey bus is absolutely essential as the cost
of taxis is unaffordable and physically taking public transport is not
possible.

Over the 2 years of my treatment I made over 80 trips in the
Daisey Bus, this is typical of many Island Patients.

Over the past 3 years ARID have been supporting WCT and are lead
sponsor of The Rainbow Run with our goal to raise awareness and much needed funds to ensure essential service continues for Island cancer patients needing treatment in Southampton and Portsmouth.

WCT also provide free local support to Island families
living with cancer. Its Newport support Centre provides practical and emotional support to patients and their families, offering drop-in services, professional counselling and complementary therapies.

The Rainbow Run is a joyous event for everyone where
individuals, families, groups and companies come together to have a great day.

We know that its not possible for everyone to join us on the day, but we would greatly appreciate any donation.
