It has been just over 10 years since the war in Syria started, until now it has been the cause of over 5 million Syrians to flee their homes, their lives, their belongings and anything else that they physically could not carry with them. Many have been killed, maimed or been left severely disabled.
Lebanon a country with a population of only 5 million now has 1.8 million registered Syrian refugees, unregistered it is thought this figure to be way over 2 million. This added strain on the Lebanese economy along with the political and social issues they are facing has left lebanon at nearly breaking point, inflation in the last year has been at over 600% and the Lebanese lira is now commonly exchanged for cash at a rate of 14,000 Lira per dollar. To put this in to context the official exchange rate is somewhere in the region of 1800 lira per dollar.
The Syrian refugees are mainly housed in makeshift shelter on the Lebanon/Syrian border in a town called Aarsal, here there are over 65,000 families. Further south in to lebanon there are endless settlements of camps with various numbers of Syrian families. Beqaa also houses a vast number of camps and families.
Our aim on this trip is to provide the refugees with life saving by way of food packs and fuel to keep them warm in the bitter cold of nightfall. Our secondary mission is to try and help the Lebanese economy by buying all our aid locally and using local logistic companies to assist with packing, deliveries and distributions.
We will also be giving out cash donations to needy families within the camps.
We aim to bring a little ease in their lives and hope we can take away the burden of feeding their children be it only for a month or two, we give out sweets to the children to bring them a small moment of joy.
Whilst we are out and on the ground we will be interacting with the beneficiaries, playing with their children, listening to their stories, helping them where it is possible with whatever we can and hopefully earning endless rewards for all you guys who are helping make this possible.
All funds will be used for this project or similar projects that we have in Yemen, Iraq, ghana, Bangladesh, Pakistan and many other countries that we cannot physically visit right now.
Zakat applicable cause and as per zakat conditions 100% of your zakat will be delivered to the beneficiaries.
