A Robin's song · 3 November 2013

We provide hospice care for babies, children and young people living with life-limiting conditions and their families. Hospice stays, emergency care, palliative care and end of life care at 3 children's hospices; Little Bridge House in Devon, Charlton Farm in Somerset and Little Harbour in Cornwall.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The work of Children’s Hospice South West, with its mission to make the most of short and precious lives, “A Robin’s Song will fund the provision of habitats, including a wildflower meadow, along with nest boxes, feeding stations and other features to attract wildlife.”

Inspired initially by his wish to enrich the time that children, families and staff spend at the Little Harbour hospice by bringing wildlife closer to them, the appeal will also raise much-needed funds to help with the running costs of the hospices in general.

With the help if the Wildlife Trust, wildlife organisations and individual we aim to create and maintain these habitats for future children and their families. The initial event is exhibibitions and auction of 300 works of art donated by 120 mainly wildlife artists worldwide but we need support to make sure the project is sustainable and to help towards the Hospices running costs.

Ian explains: “My wife Lizzie and I regularly take our daughter Alice and son Thomas to Little Harbour near St Austell in Cornwall. Here, and previously at Little Bridge House in Devon, we have benefited greatly from the wonderful facilities, care and support on offer.

“As a full-time wildlife artist, I know the life-enhancing benefits and pleasure that the natural world can bring to people of all ages – especially children. The song of a robin or the sight of butterflies amongst wild flowers can do so much. Unfortunately, although there is an abundance of wildlife in the area around Little Harbour, there is little in the grounds themselves or near the building.

Art Auction and exhibitions

Details of the auction, for which postal bids can be made, are available via www.arobinssong.co.uk.

It takes place on Sunday 3 November at the Merchant House Hotel, Falmouth Road, Truro. Bidding starts at 3.00 pm but the artwork can be viewed from 1.00 pm.

More than 300 works have been donated by almost 150 artists worldwide, reflecting an exceptional variety of styles and media. The wildlife and landscape art on sale includes originals, prints, sculptures, ceramics, books and fabrics. Contributing artists range from household names to those just starting out.

Importantly, there is no reserve – so bidders may well be able to bag a bargain.

In addition to the auction, Ian has organised exhibitions of the work at Truro Cathedral (16 to 30 September), at Wheal Martyn in St Austell (3 to 14 October) and at his own Gallery in Helston (18 to 30 October), as well as related wildlife and art activities. There will be donated prints for sale for a suggested minimum donation at the Wheal Martyn and Helston exhibitions.

Those wishing to support the appeal can also enter a prize draw (see the website for details).

“I would like to say a big thank you to all of the artists, other contributors and helpers for their generosity,” says Ian. “I hope we can raise a substantial sum to continue the superb work that Hospice South West is doing.” Ian Griffiths
