Belfast Lough Sailability is established for the relief of disability and the advancement of education; namely sailing by disabled people, involving training, recreation and competition: and to promote the preservation of health and sefety therein.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!

On June 17th 2023, together with a small group of swimmers, I'll be attempting to swim across Belfast Lough from Grey Point Fort to Carrickfergus Castle which is approximately 5.6 km or 3.5 miles as the crow flies. Not only is it the furthest sea swim I will have attempted but there will be big scary jellyfish, large container ships and ferries to contend with. What could possibly go wrong!?

My chosen charity is Belfast Lough Sailability who exist to bring the joy of sailing and boating to disabled and disadvantaged people across Northern Ireland. Operating from Carrickfergus, they have a wide range of boats for everyone to enjoy out on Belfast Lough. They are a non-profit organisation run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers who assist in the co-ordination of activities as well as enabling people living with disabilities to get afloat. It was established in September 2001, received charitable status in May 2002 and continues to provide inclusive recreational opportunities for families and individuals. They will be kindly providing boat support on the day of the swim.

If you do fancy donating and are a UK tax payer, please use the Gift Aid option as it allows the charity to claim an extra 25p for every £1 donated which can make a huge difference.
