I'm running the New York Marathon in November this year in aid of the Meningitis Research Foundation. This is a cause which is close to my heart as my youngest daughter Erin contracted meningococcal septicaemia when she was three years old. We were very lucky, with excellent treatment firstly at home by our GP, then in our local hospital the Gilbert Bain and in Aberdeen Sick Childrens Hospital she was quickly back to her normal self.
