Scilly Swim 2023 · 6 September 2023 to 7 September 2023 ·

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

Scattered off the Cornish coast, the Isles of Scilly are an archipelago separated by 15km of stormy waters and treacherous currents.

This September I will swim the 15km between them to raise money for Aspire – a charity supporting the 50,000 people in the UK living with a spinal cord injury. Every four hours someone is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. Aspire offers practical support to allow those people lead fulfilled and independent lives.

The prospect of swimming 15km is daunting. Indeed, our attempt last year was cut short by a storm not dissimilar to the cover painting. The epic swim is split into 6 legs:

🌊 St. Mary’s > St Agnes (2.9km)
       🌊 St. Agnes > Samson (4.8km)
              🌊 Samson > Bryher (1km)
                     🌊 Bryher > Tresco (600m)
                           🌊 Tresco > St. Martin’s (2.3km)
                                   🌊 St. Martin’s > St Mary’s (2.8km)

Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
