Story
Arts Express started in 1999 with a stone carving festival in Peckham Square and has gone on to deliver over 360 projects, working with over 20,000 people designed to build a sense of community – many focused on the Peckham area. These projects have included work to empower young people, the homeless, refugees, sufferers of mental health problems, work with over 60s, projects to improve the design and look of urban environments, and provided many, many opportunities for people to explore techniques in sculpture, printing, painting, ceramics and textiles.
However, sadly after ten years of service to the community we find ourselves in a difficult situation dealing with the recession. As an organisation we have always survived on commissioned work and sale of services rather than grant funding and in this period this kind of work has reduced by about 30%. The board of Arts Express has therefore taken the decision to launch an appeal to raise money to invest in the long term sustainability of the organisation by seeing through a concerted fundraising plan.
Any contribution to this appeal, will make a huge difference and give us the chance to continue the work we believe has been so beneficial to our community in the last ten years.
