Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Paul and I met each other only in July 2016 at a conference where he was speaking. He said he was looking for a volunteer to run as a sighted guide for him in a half marathon - in SIBERIA. He was such a compelling and inspirational speaker, well I thought why not !!

Paul is an exemplar of why living with sight loss does not always have to hold you back from doing anything. Since losing his sight Paul has run many half marathons and road events, and has even climbed Mt Kilimanjaro.

I myself have undertaken other challenges in th past including charity triathlons, trekking at high altitudes in Peru, and motorcycling through the Indian Himalaya's on a Royal Enfield (where I definitely used several of my 9 lives!).

Together we aim to run in the 2017 Lake Baikal Ice Marathon event, participating in the half marathon distance of 21kms. This event is one of the most gruelling running events anywhere in the world, with temperatures of as low as -27c, fierce winds across the lake surface, and a running surface varying between several inches of snow to sheet ice. See the link below :

Our aim is to run the half marathon distance in 3 hours or less, and in doing so achieve probably one of our most memorable events in our lives and at the same time raise money for our respective charity good causes.

In the case of my chosen charity Beacon Centre for the Blind, the monies raised will be used to support of 2017 Beacon Butler Golf Competition, a pan disability event that was hugely successful in 2016, and to support our planned video and audio tutorials service for visually impaired, BeaconBytesize, to be launched during 2017.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
