1:6000 children are born with microtia. Microtia results in underdeveloped ear(s) and impacts hearing. It can impact the heart, kidneys, different parts of the face and spine. There is an ongoing question whether microtia is environmental or genetic or a combination.

Story

*New page set up as the previous one had expired with a fantastic £570 raised.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 16th July 2019 my son Tommy was born with Microtia, a congenital condition whereby a baby is born with a small and malformed external ear. As a result of this condition, Tommy's ear canal in his right ear did not fully form leaving him deaf on that side.

Tommy wears a hearing aid called a BAHA which is fitted to a head band and he will eventually have a more permanent solution fitted when he is a little older. Eventually, Tommy will undergo surgery to reconstruct the external part of his ear using cartilage taken from his rib cage.

So that I can give Tommy all the love, support and guidance he will ever need, I began to research Microtia. It was then that i came across the charity Microtia UK. This wonderful charity have already provided myself, my wife Becky and many other families with much needed comfort, advice, knowledge, reassurance and support.

It is now my intention to support Microtia UK and the fantastic work they do by raising awareness of the condition as well as raising money to help fund events, publications and medical research. To help raise my target of £1000, I will be taking on my fear of heights by jumping out of a plane from 10,000 feet...

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, your on-going support is truly appreciated.
