Story
In July 2015 one of our pupils was diagnosed with leukaemia. He has been an incredibly brave boy throughout all his treatment and we are all so proud of him. We want to do something as a school to show our support and help him, and others like him, to beat cancer.
Message from the Newing family
In July 2015 my son, Freddie, was diagnosed with leukaemia. He has endured three cycles of intense chemotherapy culminating in a bone marrow transplant in December 2015. The treatment for his type of leukaemia is horrendous. On three occasions Freddie found himself in intensive care. Just before Christmas he suffered an extreme reaction to one of the conditioning drugs and was placed in a medically induced coma. He spent Christmas day and his little sister's birthday in an isolation unit in hospital. On 21st May he is going to attempt to complete one circuit of the Julie Rose Stadium; a feat we could never imagine possible. He is a remarkable boy. His attitude and bravery have been inspiring. We are so proud of him. He is determined to get well and lead a normal life. I would like to thank St Mary's school, the PTFA and parents for their phenomenal support. It is a sad reality that cancer will affect all of our lives at some point. Thank you to all those supporting Race for Life and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday 21st May. With love from Sally, Rob, Freddie and Tilly Newing
