Ashleigh's LLHM for Baby Umbrella

London Landmarks Half Marathon 2023 · 2 April 2023 ·
I am running my first ever half marathon to raise money for Baby Umbrella, a charity that offers vital free breastfeeding and early parenting support to families in West Kent. They are a charity I hold extremely close to my heart due to the invaluable support they have provided me with both of my babies.
I first encountered Baby Umbrella shortly after giving birth to my tiny 5lb baby girl who was struggling to feed. I was exhausted, in utter agony and felt extremely vulnerable. A friend suggested I go along to one of Baby Umbrella’s weekly drop in sessions and I am so grateful that they did. I was greeted by their friendly team of volunteers before being seen by a lactation specialist who provided me with brilliant advice and support. By the end of the session I felt a million times better and empowered to continue breastfeeding. I will never forget the kindness shown to me that day (and every other time I used the service) and feel I owe them so much; I wish every family could have access to the services offered by Baby Umbrella and feel incredibly lucky to have been able to receive their support.
I am really not a natural long distance runner so this will be a stretch for me. If I meet my fundraising target then I will (consider!) running the half marathon dressed as a giant boob!
Thank you so much for supporting me and this amazing charity!
