Story
Last year my sister, Jeryl, found a lump in her breast. She was carted off to hospital pretty quickly for an exploratory op to see what the problem was. The results were not good and she required a further op to take out more of her breast. Unfortunately this was not successful and at the end of the year she required a mastectomy.
Jeryl is now undergoing chemotherapy, which is not the most pleasant of experiences. She is finding it very hard at present. She generally feels extremely exhausted after the drugs are injected, often feels sick and is in pain a lot of the time. Jeryl has 5 children and a supportive husband, Stewart, and needs all the help she can get through this difficult time. The two children still at home, Kieren and Alistair are finding it hard to see their Mum suffering so much. Her three elder children James, Alana and Robert are constantly thinking about her.
A couple of years ago a good friend of mine, Clive, was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Very unusual in a man. Clive was very positive throughout his illness and treatment and had the support of a loving and caring wife and children.
This dreadful illness has consequences that affect the whole family and the person affected needs the support of their family and all those around them.
I have decided to undertake the London to Paris cycle ride so that in some small way I can help Jeryl, Clive and the countless thousands of others who suffer this terrible illness.
If you could spare some of your hard earned money in these difficult times I know that Breast Cancer Care will put it to good use and help as many of those sufferers as they can.
