Children's Heart Surgery Fund supports children and adults born with congenital heart defects across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. Working alongside the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit at LGI, we are funded by generous donations from the general public and the amazing efforts of our fundraisers.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are planning a 100 mile cycle ride from Horncastle to Leeds General Infirmary Hospital. It is to raise money for the Children's Heart Surgery Fund which is based at the hospital. We are hoping for a cycle convoy of my friends, family, colleagues and fellow cycle enthusiasts to ride into Leeds with the aim of raising lots of money.

My daughter Iris was born with congenital heart disease called mitral valve regurgitation and stenosis - her heart valve had a severe leak. Iris struggled through the first months of her life as we tried to get her large enough to accept the smallest valve as a replacement.

In July, aged 5 months the cardiac consultants, including Dr Dom Hares took the decision that Iris needed her heart valve replacing, although they wanted to delay it until she was larger. On the 6th July Iris underwent open heart surgery conducted by Mr Osama Jaber and his team.

The surgery was a big success and the support we received from all at the hospital was incredible. The Charity support all the work conducted there; including providing us a place to stay next to the hospital which is a home from home for families ran by a charity called the sick children's trust who the children's heart surgery also support. They also provide aftercare support and are looking to fund a new operating theatre.

Iris, though doing well, will require further surgeries as she grows to replace her mechanical valve but we know that with the help of the charity she is on the best hands.

Thanks for reading and hopefully we can raise a lot of money!!!
