Sport has the power to change lives, but only if everyone gets a fair chance. The Women’s Sport Trust raises the visibility and increases the impact of women’s sport through promoting role models, increasing media coverage and improving funding.

Story

For my 6th marathon campaign, in the London Marathon 2019, I will be attempting a Guinness World Record, 'Fastest marathon in film character costume (female)', for which I need to beat a time of 3:16:19. If achieved, this would also be a personal best (PB).

The film character I will be running as is Dottie Hinson (played by Geena Davis), a Rockford Peach professional baseball player in the 1992 film, "A League of Their Own". (I will also 'colour' my hair to more closely align with the character's ginger hair).

I am dressing up in this costume to celebrate women's achievement in
sport, as this film is a fictionalised account of the All-American Girls
Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) which existed from 1943-1954, and was the forerunner of women's professional league sports in the United States.

As part of emphasising the importance of women in sport, I am fundraising for the charity Women's Sport Trust, whose mandate is 'Raising the visibility and increasing the impact of women's sport'.

As a woman in a male-dominated profession (architect), as a Canadian living in Great Britain (the AAGPBL had many Canadian players) and as someone who has played sport throughout my life (football, basketball, volleyball), this cause is close to my heart.

I greatly appreciate any contribution you can make to this cause and for those that live locally, please come out to cheer me on during the marathon on 28 April!
