For 450 years our charity has been providing homes for wounded and needy soldiers. Over the past four and a half centuries we estimate we have provided over 500 wounded and needy brave men a place of sanctuary and peace. Our Elizabethan charter from 1571 says we must give a free home to local midlands soldiers who have fallen on hard times whether wounded in battle or down on their luck! These special guest are called the Brethren. We would like to give those wounded in modern battles a chance to take us up on our centuries old charity. But we can't do this until we upgrade our flats. In August 2017 we were given a grant from the Grocers to upgrade a flat for a wonderful 28 year old hero wounded in Helmand, Afghanistan. He lives with us now and we are honoured to have him as part of our Brethren community! We would like to have his comrades join us too by renovating and upgrading our current 12 flats, but we need funding to create better spaces for them.
