Aspire channel swim 2018 · 10 September 2018

Every two hours someone in the UK is paralysed by a spinal cord injury. It can happen to anyone at any time and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help, supporting spinal cord injured people from injury to independence.

Story

My 10 year old and I have taken on a challenge to raise money for Aspire by swimming the channel. Actually, since such an enterprise would be extremely foolhardy and would undoubtedly end in embarrassment and probably tragedy,  we are swimming the distance in our local swimming pool.  This works out as a scary 1416 lengths of our 25 m pool.  To make this feasible  given we are swimming it over a period of 12 weeks. This makes the challenge more about keeping going than sporting prowess (which suits us as we are both more stubborn than sporty). Isabel was more keen to do this than I, and she is going to have to do the bulk of the distance as I have a shoulder injury which means everything has to be done in my rather slow breast stroke. So please consider going to her page to encourage her by sponsoring her.
