2010 Great Scottish Swim · 21 August 2010 ·

We support Ward 3 at The Great North Children's Hospital, where families live in a protective bubble. Whether it’s funding cutting-edge research, providing emotional and practical support for families, or ensuring children can still be children, everything we do is centred around care and hope.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are taking part in the Great Scottish Swim sponsored by British Gas , the event is televised - so watch out for us!!!

We are raising money for the Bubble Foundation - a charity which supports children and babies born without any immune system. The Bubble Foundation UK works in partnership with the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit based in Newcastle General Hospital.

As one of only two specialised centres in the British Isles, the Unit treats babies born without an immune system, by bone marrow transplantation. Unable to fight infection, the most severe condition, Servere Combined Immune Deficiency (SCID) is fatal if untreated within a year of birth....event the simplest common cold viris passed by a mothers kiss can kill them.

Donations and funds are used for Medical Research, Medical Equipment, Nurses Education and Training, Parent and Family Support, toys and educational equipment.

We have been training for the last few months, swimming 3 or 4 miles a week.

The event is in Straithclyde Loch on the 21st August. Mark is swimming with the elite swimmers at 10.30am, and Tracey is swimming at 1.30pm - 1 mile in open water.

PLEASE DONATE GENEROUSLY ....WE HAVE SET OURSELVES A TARGET TO RAISE AT LEAST £500.00
