our story

Every year the University of Lincoln Athletics and Cross Country club choose a charity to fundraise throughout the year for, this year we have chosen ‘childs victims of crime’ CVOC/Embrace. This charity is incredible in the fact works to support children, young people and families who are victims of serious crime. They focus on helping them cope with what has happened, their recovery and provide services that enable them to put events behind them, so they can fulfill their life’s potential.

The reason that our society decided to fundraise for CVOC is due to the fantastic impact it has had on one of our committee members when life for him and his family was impacted massively by crime. Our social secretary, Rhys Dickinson, experience physical and sexual abuse
for 4 years. Abuse like this impacted his life incredibly and turned what should have been a happy childhood into a nightmare. Thankfully the charity CVOC were there to pick him back up, they supported him and his family, they influenced his recovery and they allowed him to believe that he could fulfill a happy future. CVOC also sent him and his family to Disney world Florida, this was to allow him and his family to make happy memories together, and this therefore marked the start of being able to rebuild their lives. We hope by sharing this story people understand why we have so much passion for this charity and why we want them to continue doing the fantastic work they do day to day.

We have around 35 members who are going to be running the Lincoln 10k on the 7th of April for CVOC, however we intend on taking part in other fundraising events leading up to this. We already plan to take part in the Lincoln Santa run, and our XC captain, Harry Langham, has kindly offered to run from Lincoln to Boston (34 miles) all in aid of this worthy cause.

It would mean the absolute world to everyone In the Athletics society if you could donate to our just giving page. We would love to give back to a charity that mends the hearts, minds and lives of children and families.

Thank you,

The members of the Lincoln Athletics and Cross Country club.
