Story

thank you for all the sponsorship 😀

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We (Warren Bolton and Darren Woods) are cycling 1027 miles from Lands End to John O'Groats, in September 2015, in memory of beloved friend Emma Grandison.

Emma was diagnosed with terminal cancer whilst 16 weeks pregnant with her first baby, and throughout her illness and despite her aggressive treatment she always had a smile on her face and looked for the 'golden nugget' in everyday.

Her baby, Erin, was delivered prematurely at 25 weeks, weighing 1lb 10oz and spent the first 5 months of her life in the neo-natal unit of Royal Preston Hospital.

Shortly after the birth of Erin, Emma needed blood transfusions, and whilst in neo-natal Erin required donor breast milk, to help her thrive. At the time it seemed like both these items 'just appeared' from the hospital stores. It soon came to light though that the blood supplies and the donor milk were not kept on-site and had to be delivered in, on request......by the volunteer, out of hours, riders of the North West Blood Bikes - Lancs and Lakes.

At 22 weeks old Erin left the neo-natal unit and was allowed home with her proud parents. Due to Ian's work commitments and Emma's grueling treatment they required additional support with taking care of Erin. Mummy's Star, a specialist charity supporting pregnant mums, and families, through cancer and beyond, assisted the young family by providing a grant to help cover the costs of a carer for Erin.

Unfortunately, Emma lost her courageous battle with cancer on 5th February 2015, when Erin was just 15 months old. Erin is just taking her first steps, and continues to grow into a beautiful young girl with the unconditional love and care from her wonderful Dad, Emma's husband, Ian.

With Emma's blessing we want to show our thanks, support and appreciation to the above charities for their unwavering dedication and commitment to those who need them, by enduring the 1027 mile bike ride.

Please support our epic challenge and donate any amount you can.

Many thanks

Warren and Darren.
