Story
So...what is actually happening? Over the next 30 days (07.10.20-06.11.20) me and my family are going to walk a total of 120 miles as part of Beat's 120 Challenge!
As a charity that does so much to support those suffering from Eating Disorders, as well as their families, Beat is a charity that I feel very strongly for.
For multiple years I struggled with Anorexia Nervosa. This was an incredibly lonely, scary, and all-consuming time in my life, taking a huge toll on both me, and my family and friends.
But! It is important to focus on the positive, and that is that I have now been in recovery for almost 3 years now, discharged for just under 2. This was hugely thanks to the amount of support I received from the NHS, Beat, and my family and friends, and I will always be so incredibly grateful for everything that was done to help me.
Recovery granted me so much that had been taken away by my eating disorder. I was able to take my place at my dream university where I was able to study English Literature (a course that I love so much), travel to far off lands, and start many amazing friendships I will cherish forever! More than that though, recovery gave me the freedom from fear of my own mind and the crippling need for control through restriction. Did you know putting egg on porridge was a thing? I just discovered it and it’s epic! Recovery lets me discover these random (genius!) things that at one time I would have been terrified of.
Eating disorders thrive on isolation and recovery often relies heavily on routine and brand familiarity, things that are all effected by the current climate due to Covid-19. This only makes the support offered by Beat so much more important. Which is why I want to try and do something to help support this charity, and I hope if you can you will help by sponsoring me and my family as we take this challenge.
I hope you are having a lovely day/evening/night!
Thank you,
Eleanor
