Story
My name is Aurea and I am running Brighton Marathon in order to raise money for Endometriosis uk .I learn about the fact that I have an endometriosis 5 years ago when I went to the hospital for an "appendicitis". As they couldn't find my appendix during the echograph they decided to operate me all of the same. It is at this moment when they did the coloscopy, they discovered about my endometriosis.
At this time I was 18 and I was suffering since I was 12. It have been 6 long years before to put a name in this pain. In France, in England as everywere else in the world this illness is very unknown. The time to put a word in the pain that women get, is very too long. We have to do something for the diagnosis to be given quickly.
During 6 years I was throwing up du to the pain, I couldn't do sport during 1 week each month, I had big pains "without" anyreason, I was staying in bed the first day of my period. Doctors keeping telling me that's was nothing, they gave me a lot of drugs to try, but nothing worked so they gave me something else again and again... And unfortunately I am far to be the only one in this case...
Now a day I know what I have, I can put a word on all this pain, so of course that don't take out the pain but to understand them it's much more easier! So now I can do sport almost all the time because I know how to work with.
This illness is for me what I call an "invisible disease" so that means people don't really understand or even don't really believe the people who suffering a lot. We can't see anything outside but inside those women are really suffering.
My goal now a day more than raise money it's to make people aware about this illness, make young girls that it is not normal to have a lot of pain during their period, make people able to understand it's not because we can't see anthing outside that it is not painfull
inside. Forthermore I am raising money for endometriosis UK who help and follow women with endometriosis.
