From the 5/2/21 we will be running, rowing, walking and biking until the 20th of June. We are trying to aim to do 7.4 km a day each to reach a total of 2000km.

Grandad was a major part of my life and he taught me so much. I learnt how to make his spectacular jam and all about his 6 older sisters, my great-great grandmother and the genealogy of our family. 

When I was 8, I dyed one of his t-shirts using only water and flowers using an old-fashioned method he taught me. He was amazing and everyone who met him knew him as "Grandad" and loved him. As my friends would know, I am very interested in the history of the World Wars, and that is thanks to Grandad and all of our many conversations. 

I never realised he was old until he was dying. Finding out about his cancer was a real shock and Mum leaving to take care of him for his final three months was hard but also I wouldn't have wanted anyone else to have been there for him. We got to visit him everyday after school with my cousins and we tried to make the most of the time we had left with him. He was loving and funny to the end. 

Everyone from the Hospice in the Weald were amazingly kind and supportive. They helped look after Grandad, arranged beds and equipment for him, and reassured him that he was in the best hands. But they also supported my Mum which was really important and enabled her to look after Grandad, even when she had to stay up all night. 

This time it was my family but you never know when you might need them. They are a charity and need all of our support.

Although Grandad wasn't my Great-Grandad, he was always a big part of Aurora's life, which meant I got to see him very often. He always used to make jam with me and Aurora, and he let us use his garage for me and Aurora's amazing tie dye adventures! I did lots of tutoring in his house with my friends, and Grandad was a very generous biscuit giver! I loved working in his office and seeing all of his flags and French maps. He was such a clever man with interesting stories of all of his adventures during his career and the many countries he had worked and lived in.
