Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page!
On 22nd September 2022 we will be travelling to Tanzania to attempt to summit Kilimanjaro - which at 5,895 metres (19,341 feet) makes it the highest mountain in Africa and the tallest free standing mountain in the world.
We will be climbing via the Machame Route, which has a relatively high success rate, and have chosen an option which allows us an extra day for altitude acclimatisation. This will hopefully give us a a higher chance of a successful summit (the average success rate is only 65% of all climbers!!!).
The route will take us through a very diverse range of eco systems (savannah, cloud forest, moorland and alpine desert) meaning the temperatures could range from 21C to 27C at the base of the mountain to -7C to -29C at the peak!!!
We will be climbing and camping out for 5 days before we even get to 'summit night', which begins at 11pm and aims to see us summitting by approximately 6 am the next morning.
The descent is a much quicker process - only a day and a half - as it is important to return to lower altitude as quickly as possible.
The charity we are raising money for is the Lily Mae Foundation. This will be our second major challenge on behalf of the charity - we raised a large amount of money by trekking 100KM across the Sahara Desert in 2019! We are self funding this challenge so every single penny we raise will go directly towards the good work that the charity does.
The Lily Mae Foundation is an incredible charity which supports parents and families after a stillbirth or neonatal death.
We are undertaking this challenge to raise funds to help them provide the following:
Memory Boxes to Bereaved Parents and Memory Making Kits to Grandparents
Counselling Support for Parents, Siblings and Family Members.
Information to Parents, Families and to Health Care and Medical Professionals
Training and Support for Midwives, Student Midwives and Neonatal Nurses
Research into the Prevention of Stillbirth and Neonatal Death
We hope that our trek will go some way to help in the Lily Mae foundation in their work.
Please donate what you can!!!!!
