Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
My sister Andrea (Yvie’s Aunt) passed away last August of breast cancer at the age of just 50. She was a mother of two teenage daughters who meant everything to her. She told me shortly before she died, “They have always been my life”. It was because of this that Andrea fought a courageous battle against a horrendous disease and the complications that it brought. She even survived a whole year after being in a coma on a life support machine with the medical team raising the possibility of turning the machine off. From a family perspective, her dignity and strength of will in such circumstances have been an inspiration to us all, especially to her daughters Amelia and Sophia.
In her memory and in aid of the Breast Cancer Campaign and Breakthrough Cancer, Yvie and I will be tackling the challenge of the Southend Half Marathon on Sunday 14th June. Some of you may know that Yvie is a hockey enthusiast and I am an ageing jogger, but running such an event will be a new departure for us (Yvie normally only grants me favour to run with her when we are on holiday together). 13 miles / 21 km of running will be a challenge, particularly for me, and the omens aren’t that good. At the end of a recent holiday run with Yvie, as we returned through the campsite, I overheard one onlooker describe of us, “The girl looks fine but the Dad looks knackered!” We shall see….
Every year about 50,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer, the vast majority obviously being women, but a small number of men are also affected. Tragically it claims the lives of approximately 12,000 people. The Breast Cancer Campaign raises money specifically for projects investigating all aspects of breast cancer. We believe this is a worthy cause and we hope you will agree. Any donations would be hugely appreciated.
