Shaving my beard for World Autism Awareness Day · 2 April 2020

The National Autistic Society is here to transform lives, change attitudes and create a society that works for autistic people. There is still so much to do to increase opportunities, reduce social isolation and build a brighter future for autistic people. With your help, we can make it happen.

Story

Since I left education in 2015 I have been working in SEN (special educational needs) schools and departments over the years. I currently work for Brockenhurst College and I have seen a variety of challenges that these young people have to go through at various different points in their schooling lives. Whether it be transitions to a new school or accessing mainstream education for the first time in their lives.

I have enjoyed my time working and getting to know these young people and seeing all of their achievements and seeing them move on to great things whether that be university, college or even work. After seeing all of this I have decided this year on World Autism Awareness Day that I would do something to give back.

On the 2nd of April I will be shaving my beard completely off. Over the past 6 months I have been growing it out for this day. I will be sure to upload a video of the big event.

This is all for the National Autistic Society who do an amazing job changing the lives of these people every day. I know times are hard at the moment with the Covid-19 crisis but if you could donate something it would be greatly appreciated :)
