Story

We are trying to raise money for The Transverse Myelitis Society which provides information and support to people living with Transverse Myelitis, their families and carers in the UK, and those with other rare auto-immune neurological conditions, ADEM and NMO (Devic's disease). It's affiliated with the worldwide Transverse Myelitis Association.

Me and a good friend will be doing a bike ride event through Yorkshire to raise the money. We are doing this bike ride because this horrible condition has affected a young lad which has lost movement in his arms within 48 hours of this issue being found. This stops him from doing day to day tasks that we take for granted and that he used to be able to do.

This devastating condition is inflammation of the spinal cord. It causes weakness in the arms and legs which can range from a mild 'heavy' feeling in one limb, to complete paralysis in all four limbs. NMO is a rare condition and In the U.K it is thought NMO affects less than 1000 people. It also affects the optic nerve therefore can cause reduction or loss of vision.

It may cause numbness, tingling or burning below the affected area of the spinal cord and increased sensitivity to touch, cold and heat. There may also be tight and painful muscle contractions (known as tonic muscle spasms).

We are hoping that eventually he will gain some form of movement to hopefully do the tasks he used to be able to do.

Please donate as this will be greatly appreciated by all of us.
