Story

Edit 2. On the 29thth September 2022 we managed to swim to France in 12hrs and 55min.

None of this would have been possible without all of the hard planning that went behind the scenes and the team that helped us on the day so a massive thank you to Eddie and his crew on Anastasia, Cathy for invigilating the crossing to make it official, and C3IA Solutions Ltd for sponsoring our stay down in Dover. Also to the team

Edit 1. The sea has calmed down and we have been given the green light to swim.

I've always have had a passion for swimming and have always dreamt of swimming the English Channel. In 2020 I got given the opportunity to join the Royal Signals Chanel swimming team to celebrate the 100th year of the Royal signals. This is one of the many events that Royal Signals service personnel have been taking part in to celebrate our Corps centenary.

We started training straight away with our first challenge being a 12-hour swim in Hythe where we swam the distance of the channel. Then covid hit and we had to stop all training. Two years later we were able to restart training and attempt the channel crossing.

Around the 24th September 2022 we will be undertaking this challenge as per the Channel Swimming & Piloting Federation rules, meaning no wetsuits and a strict 60 minute rotation between team members. The conditions in the channel are harsh, with cold water, currents, tides and "stuff in the water" to deal with! When not swimming, team members will be waiting their turn in our pilot boat, whilst faced with the weather and potential sea sickness! The idea was first hatched over a year ago, and the team has spent hundreds of hours training in the pool, lakes and in the sea. Given the effort put into the event, we thought that the good work that BLESMA do would make them an ideal charity to raise money for. Any donation, no matter how small, would be very much appreciated. Thank you for reading our Story.
