Story
Salaam and thanks for visiting my page, my name is Asif (just in case you missed it at the top of the page); but you can call me AZ, I'm mid 30's, a few pounds overweight (OK, more then a few pounds! More like a few Stones! LOL) and seriously, SERIOUSLY unfit! After much thought I decided to register for the event to raise money for a great cause and to get my fat lazy ass off the sofa and out regular training to lose some weight and make sure I finish the whole 10K.
Carry on reading and let me tell you my story or reasons for doing this run or skip it and just make a donation to a great cause. Coronary heart disease is the UK’s single biggest killer - by sponsoring me you will be helping to fund live saving research and help keep me motivated while I train for my milestone run.
A couple of years ago; on Sunday 1st November 2015, I received the heartbreaking news that my beloved Uncle Qadir had sadly passed away in the changing rooms of a local gym having had a sudden heart attack after a work out. He passed away at only 45 years old, his death left a huge and devastating void in so many lives!
He was a hardworking man of great character and extremely intelligent, always had a smile on his face and always had time for you no matter what, he was always on hand ready to help you, someone you could rely on, his positivity was infectious; everyone that met him was always left with a positive impression.
I spent a lot of my youth in his presence, he was in his early teens when I was born and he was more like an older brother and friend than an uncle, he taught and helped me so much - from helping with my studies in high school, getting me out of trouble to being business partners; we really were partners in crime for sure!
His death affected so many people; but though he may be gone he continues to stay alive in our hearts each and every one of us all have fond memories of him. Most people don't know about my own emotional and mental struggle and how much it had affected me but he was a huge part of my life. Death affects us all in different ways. There is no correct way to deal with it. People ask you if you are OK but the question is what do they really expect you to say? What they want to hear or how you actually feel? Do they really have time or want to listen to you and can they understand? Or is it easier just to put on a brave face and try and hide your "weakness"? My advice to anyone affected is reach out and get help, talk to people whether they understand you or not, keep your head up and teach yourself to start living again and those that know someone affected take the time out and help them by listening to them. We can all learn how to start living again from each other, too many of us get stuck in the same routines and feel trapped.
Coronary heart disease devastates families and affects so many lives and this is why BHF is one of the charities that I feel strongly about.
I think I have just about started to begin living again - the first steps are the ones that are always most definitely the hardest to take.
If you made it this far, thanks for taking the time to read this, it is always appreciated. #respect
