In memory of Des Walker
In September 2019, our much-loved friend and colleague James Walker passed away at the age of 38. The James Walker Legacy Award has been set up to create a lasting legacy in his name to benefit NFTS graduate screenwriters and producers.

Story

In September 2019 we lost big Des (aka James Walker). Nicknamed “Des” after the 90s footballer whose surname he shared, James was an effortlessly warm and charming man. He was a husband & father to two children, a successful lawyer and a BAFTA winning film maker. He gave boundless energy to help creatives in the minefield of fledgling careers. Like many of his generosities, he sought no praise or acknowledgement. That’s how proper a gent he was.

The James Walker Legacy Award stands to help emerging talent as they navigate the challenges of breaking into the industry, while enabling them to establish themselves regardless of background or financial means, all in the spirit of the support Des gave to so many.

Des was my creative confidante since the first days of university and the loveliest man I have ever known. The award will keep his name in the mix, & will be run by the National Film and Television School and his workplace Lee & Thompson. So please put your hands in your pockets and click donate

I’ll start the pedal on Friday Sept 18th in John O Groats, set a few fireworks off for that dashing man, roll through Kyle of Sutherland, Strathdon, Hopetoun Estate, Lockerbie, York, Boston, London, Brighton (and bed 😂). Friends will join for various legs.

There’ll be a lot of takers for pedalling from London I imagine - if you’re keen, let’s meet at Jame’s memorial bench at Lincoln’s Inn Fields at 930am on Sat Sept 26th (rain or shine!) and set off from there. We’ll pedal the final mile or so along Brighton promenade with James’ son Josh and daughter Olivia. Should be memorable for the little ones.

If you wanna join for any other legs WhatsApp me, 07738912086. Covid restrictions don't affect the ride though will affect how we sit in Brighton. Basically no mingling across tables!

You can keep up to date with images from the trip on this page.
