I have been selected to be part of the HSBC 'Team South' which plans to cycle between London and Birmingham for Alzheimer's Society commencing 24th September. HSBC's partnership with British Cycling is sponsoring this ride from 4 corners of the UK to raise over £100,000 for this charity.

The ride which has been set up to symbolise the move of 'HSBC UK' to our new head offices in Birmingham will see 4 teams covering approximately 300km (188 miles) over 2 days.

Team South is made up of 10 employees of mixed abilities from all areas of the bank to work as a team to complete this enduring task. For many of us its the longest distance we have ever cycled.

Having committed to raise over £1000 for Alzheimer's, a charity very close to my heart, I am reaching out for any support you can offer to help me achieve my goal.

New figures released by the office of National Statistics show that for the first time, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias are the leading cause of death for England and Wales.

Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases such as Alzheimer's disease diseaseor a series of strokes. Alzheimer's disease is the most commen cause of dementia, but not the only one. The specific symptoms that someone with dementia experiences will depend on the parts of the brain that are damaged and the disease that is causing the dementia.
