Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

At 3:45am on Thursday May 30th 2013, my wife Debbie and I gave birth to a beautiful 7lbs 2oz baby boy, our 1st child, called Peter Fraser. Peter was so wanted & so loved but sadly he never woke up to see his mummy & daddy.

Around 30 hours earlier Debbie had started going into labour at home and we did all the things that expectant parents do - called the hospital, packed bags, put the car seat in the car etc. We went into hospital on Wednesday morning only to be told the most devastating news imaginable, that baby Peter's heartbeat could not be found. We pleaded for them to try again or to do something but they could not. Our world had been ripped apart along with our hearts. We just held each other and cried for what seemed like an eternity hoping and praying that they had made a mistake.

The next stage was even harder as we had to proceed with the labour with the knowledge that our baby Peter would never wake, cry or ever grow up.

Throughout this awful time, the care and attention we received from the staff at Rubislaw ward was fantastic and it was here that we learned about SANDS (Stillbirth & neonatal death charity) for the 1st time.

SANDS is a national charity, established by bereaved parents in 1981. They have 3 core aims which are to:

  • Support anyone affected by the death of a baby;
  • To work in partnership with health professionals to improve the quality of care and services offered to bereaved families; and
  • To promote research and changes in practice that could help to reduce the loss of babies' lives

We have already received help, advice and support from Aberdeen SANDS in the short time since losing Peter and will continue to utilise that support for a long time coming.

Aberdeen SANDS is one of more than 150 self-help support groups which exist nationwide. Support is provided by letter, telephone or by 1-1 contact with a SANDS befriender who has direct experience of losing a baby. The Aberdeen group is run by a committee of bereaved parents - they have no office and are funded through their own efforts to raise money and donations.

So please, please, dig deep and donate now so that families already affected get the support they need and no-one else need struggle through this horrible situation without support from SANDS.

In memory of baby Peter Fraser. In support of SANDS.

Thanks again.

Adam & Debbie Fraser. xXx
