I travelled to Bangladesh for the first time ten years ago with Selfless, this August I will be going back to deliver lifechanging medical aid.

More than a quarter of a million women die during childbirth each year. 99% of them are from developing countries. 100% are preventable.

Bangladesh has one of the highest maternal and newborn mortality rates in the world. Every year:

• Over 5,000 mothers die during pregnancy or childbirth
• More than 77,000 babies die in their first month 

The loss of these lives can be traced back to the lack of skilled doctors and inadequate access to healthcare with less than 3 doctors for every 10,000 people.

Selfless' vision is to make pregnancy safe for every mother across the world, starting in Bangladesh. Whilst there exists many maternal health interventions, the majority are inaccessible to the women who need it most.

We have brought together all the best evidence-based
interventions and put them into one bundle. These will be distributed in the most rural areas for households that have little or no access to antenatal care.
