Story

We dont really want a set target but any amount big or small will really help.

For those that don't know our most recently born son Ezra was, quite dramatically, admitted to the intensive care unit in the Royal Victoria Childrens Hospital on the 15th Sep 18. He was diagnosed with Wolff Parkinson White Syndrome.

Ezra's story:
Just before Ezra turned 2 weeks old he started to go off his bottles and generally wasn't himself. We took him to a and e thinking he had dehydration. When we arrived at triage the nurse put a sats probe on him and it showed his heart rate was 330beats per min. She thought her machine was broken so went and got another machine and again it said the same thing. From there we were rushed round to Resus where the tried different measures to bring his heart rate down. They first started with ice packs right over his face to shock him back into normal rhythm but 2 lots of this didn't work. Next he had to try a medicine to stop his heart for a few seconds and hopefully kick start it back to a normal rhythm. They tried this 3 times and his heart remained at 330 the whole time. Lastly they told us he needed to be shocked, they didn't want us to see this so sent us to the relatives room where they told us we would be moving to ICU and we would be moving quickly as Ezra was very sick. Once in ICU Ezra was sedated and ventilated to give his body and heart a chance to rest and recover. We were told Ezra has a condition called Wolf Parkinson White syndrome (he has an extra electrical current to his heart) Ezra spent 5 days in ICU and was then transferred to the heart ward called Clark clinic where he spent another 5 days. He was started on a medicine to slow down his heart and after being taught how to listen in and check his heart rate with a stethoscope which they provided to us we were able to go home. On his 2nd day home we tuned into the same symptoms happening again so we listened in with our stethoscope and couldn't count the heart rate as it was going so fast, we returned to a and e as he was again in SVT with his heart beating at 286bpm. They tried 2 lots of ice again and 2 lots of the heart stopping medicine which thankfully worked this time. He was sent back to Clark clinic for observation and to get his medication updated. We spent another 3 days there. Thankfully since his medicine has been upped he hasn't had another episode but we now know how quickly it can change and without trigger or warning he may go back into SVT at anytime. Its now a case of monitoring him and listening with our stethoscope when we feel something isn't right. The whole time Ezra was in hospital We were able to stay with him thanks to the Children's Heartbeat Trust who with the help of donations provide rooms for heart families. The Children's Heartbeat Trust also help Clark clinic and fundraise for equipment etc for the use on the ward. As a family we want to give something back to the wonderful hospital staff and the Children's Heartbeat Trust so we have decided to fundraise for them. Our just giving page can be found here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/babyezrahill

We just want to give something back to the fantastic nurses, doctors, cardiologist staff and all who have and currently are looking after Ezra. They have all been amazing.
