Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On Wednesday 28th November 2012 I visited the hospital as I was a little anxious that I hadn’t felt our baby move overnight. It was here that we were told the devastating news that unfortunately they couldn’t find a heartbeat and that our precious little baby had passed away at just 26 weeks and 5 days! To say we were devastated is an understatement and the next few days passed by in a blur as we came to terms with the loss and prepared ourselves to go back to the hospital to give birth. At the time I was very angry and didn’t understand why I couldn’t just be induced there and then but am glad now that they made us wait as I don't think we would have coped as well as we have otherwise.

I was induced at 9.30am on Friday 30th November 2012 and our beautiful baby boy Jamie Robinson was born sleeping later that day at 5.02pm, weighing 2lb 5oz! I can't begin to describe how proud we felt as the midwife passed Jamie to us to hold; although he was tiny he was perfect and just looked like he was fast asleep. He's the double of his daddy, with curly blonde (warm/auburn) hair and has the same nose and perfect eyebrows! The 21 hours that we spent with him in hospital as a family were so special and we will cherish that time forever. We took loads of photos and just spent the time taking in all the little things that some parents take for granted.

Whilst in hospital we had a really supportive team around us that were there day and night. After Jamie was born the staff took the time to bathe and dress him and treated him like any other baby. During this time they collected keepsake items for us like locks of his hair, the blanket that he was first wrapped in, and they did hand and footprints with him; all were items that would later become part of his memory box. I feel this really helped us to come to terms with the loss of our son and meant we would forever have memories of our little angel. Having to say goodbye was the hardest thing we have ever had to do and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. No mother or father should ever have to say goodbye to their child and feel the heartache and emptiness we felt.

We would like to say a massive thank you to everyone for their kind words, love and support; it is really helping us to get through this difficult time knowing we are not alone.
We have arranged Jamie's funeral and this will take place at Robin Hood crematorium in the upcoming weeks; as his coffin is going to be tiny anyway Craig and I would like to get him something special from us but would like anyone that would like to buy flowers to instead donate the money to help other couples like us. We feel that the charity Sands 'stillborn and neonatal deaths' really helped us and therefore feel it is important that we give something back to them. Whilst it would be lovely to have loads of flowers at Jamie’s funeral at the end of the day flowers don’t last forever whereas his memory will live on forever. Any donation big or small will be much appreciated; so please help us to help others at such a difficult time.
It has been an emotional roller coaster but so magical at the same time!

RIP son forever in our hearts, we love you to the moon and back xxx

We will also be collecting to make a donation to the Eden suite at Heartlands hospital that looked after us; to help buy new equipment and enable them to carry on helping others in the same position as ourselves! If you would rather donate to them please let me know and this can be arranged :) please contact me at katiepickett@hotmail.co.uk

many thanks Katie, Craig and Jamie xxx
