Story

Thank you for taking the time to come to our Just Giving page. Please read our story.

Dean Neagen and Mark Baptist will be partaking in the North Downs Way enduring a 50mile run, on May 18th 2019.

Obviously when looking to undertake such a massive effort we felt that we would do this for not only the personal achievement of completing the 50 miles but also we wanted to try and raise some money for our chosen charity.

We sat down together to discuss this with Jamie Lewis (Affinity Mortgages Director) who asked the us to watch a video of one of his oldest clients, whom very sadly had to terminate their baby at 23weeks and 5days then give birth. It was, as you can all imagine the most horrific of journeys for anybody, but part of their decision making process was made even harder by the fact that if James had survived Lynsey would have to look after him virtually alone as Mike, her husband who used to work away. Sadly Lynsey has spent most of her life in and out of hospital and indeed now is in a wheelchair most of the time with a degenerative disorder.

So they made that awful decision, because even if the chances were slim of a ‘normalish’ life for James, physically Lynsey would definitely not be able to support him.

Now at this point giving birth to a child who is sleeping is bad enough, but to do so in a room full of other ladies who’ve all given birth to normal babies is another extremely mentally scarring thing to do.

Southend hospital has a special suite for exactly this purpose, it is called the Butterfly suite, and incredibly up to 50 families a year use this facility – it has a profound effect on all of its users and they, as you can imagine, are extremely grateful for it at the bleakest of times.

The Butterfly suite is funded solely by the families who use it…. This is where we want to help, and we can make a difference – and whilst huge steps are always being medically made to stop these issues at cause, sometimes the people whom actually have to live through these things need the most support right now!

With your help and generosity we can look to make that difference to families that will unfortunately use it. Please, whatever amount you can, donate to a worthy cause.

Thank you and much love x
