Daring to Dream® is a new fund specifically set up to support the emotional health and well-being of ward patients in University Hospital Wales. The fund is in partnership with Cardiff and the Vale Health Charity. It is part of the legacy of the Leading Wales Awards and I am helping lead and develop it.

Surviving acute and, for me, life threatening illness, has been a
huge experience. The emotional impact (not just the physiological ones) is enormous.  Emotionally, I found the experience totally
bruising, exhausting. Its like you have no idea what has hit you or how you will move forward again.

To come through such illness, to rebuild, to refocus on what
I enjoy in life, to still help make a difference, to manage my health issues and not let them manage me, means it really is essential to dig deep emotionally. 

Through experiencing this myself I have learnt just how vital support in terms of a patient's emotional health and well-being is, so that they can deal in the best way possible with all the medical challenges they face.

That is the purpose of Daring to Dream; a fund to support
ward patients emotionally, adding value to the wonderful clinical expertise and care provided by the medical teams.

I shall lead by example and start our fundraising with my aim to get to the top of Pen y Fan on Saturday July 6th! This is something I could only have dared to dream as possible some time back. 

Lets see how much we can raise: one ipad with robust cover is £360, one bed/chair for one ward area is £880 - I'd like to get to £600 towards the purchase of both of these - with your help please!
