Daring to Dream®

Daring to Dream® is a named fund whose mission is to provide ward-based goods, services and activities for patients (and groups of patients) that help enhance their emotional health and well-being.

Charity Registration No. 1056544

Being critically ill or chronically ill and sadly, for some very courageous people, living with shortened life expectancy are all challenging scenarios whether we are the patient or a family member. As a patient, in order to respond physically as well as possible to our personal health challenges, we also need to dig deep emotionally.

Daring to Dream® is a new fund specifically set up to support the emotional health and well-being of ward patients in University Hospital Wales. The fund is in partnership with Cardiff and the Vale Health Charity.

Initially focused on the Cardiothoracic Directorate, we are raising funds to a) buy stuff to support patients b) to provide services such as hairdressing for longer stay patients and regular activities such as musical interludes and c) we plan to refurbish the Day Rooms on B1 and C5 as well as create more comfort within the Relatives' Room and the Quiet Room (the Cwtsh) on C3 corridor.

The funds raised from the "Harmoni Cymru at Sunflower & I" will specifically help raise funds so that we can provide some weekend musical interludes for patients with Harmoni Cymru - a group of young talented musicians who already play for patients in Barry and Llandough hospitals.

Come and enjoy the unique experience of Sunflower & I (in Mount Stuart Square, Cardiff Bay) whilst also enjoying Harmoni Cymru!

You will also be able to pre-order your refreshments, directly with Sunflower & I by emailing Their menu is online at - they offer great sharing platters, afternoon tea of mouth watering finger sandwiches made with Polish bread, Polish cakes and scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam and more besides!
