All done !
After 1008 miles (plus the 13.1 for the Great North Run) its over!
A huge thank you to all of you that have sponsored and especially to those that allowed a wet and smelly cyclist stay for the night on the way from south to north. Most of it was fun...some was not (Ayrshire in monsoon conditions for example). But your support made every pedal worth it. Fabulous stuff and thanks again, Africa will be a little bit better as a result!
Best wishes
Nigel
Hi - HALFWAY TO JOHN O GROATS
Thank you so much for the magnificent sponsoring you have done. it has made the never ending hills of the West Country easier - now for the Lake District and Scotland...sunshine forecast then...SNOW.
I am sure the team at Life for African Mothers will love the great sum you have raised. Recently saw their report showing a drop in maternal deaths from 26% to 6% through their work. Fantastic stuff.
Thanks again
Nigel
Two weeks and two hours to raise £2000.
Barbara Clifford, my mother, died in June after a long encounter with cancer borne bravely and with grace.
To celebrate her early career as a nurse and her life as a mother I am planning two challenges. These will, we hope, raise money to start training four midwives in Africa....or more depending on your support and generosity.
My two challenges are:
1. The Great North Run in September 2011. The Great North Run is the UK's biggest half marathon (13.1 miles). I aim to do it in around 2 hours.
2. Cycling Lands End to John O'Groats in October 2011. 'LEJOG' is over 1000 miles - stretching from one end of the UK to the other, Cornwall to the tip of Scotland. I plan to cycle LEJOG solo in around 2 weeks, in the winds and rain of a British autumn!
The charity - Life for African Mothers - is part of the Good Gifts programme and is tackling one of the UN's Millenium Goals, cutting maternal deaths.
There have been two BBC ‘Panorama’ programmes focused on this issue and charity:
Please give generously, it will make every pedal push and step more worthwhile and I will keep you posted with the pain and progress.
Best wishes and thanks
Nigel
