In Loving Memory of Barbara Barnes

Our beautiful Mum sadly passed away on 11th March and we have set up this page in her loving memory.
JDRF (The Juvenile Diabetes Foundation) UK is a charity that is close to the hearts of all of our family as Rhianna was diagnosed at the age of 11. From day one, Mum attended every appointment and made it her mission to become a type 1 diabetes expert. Mum was there every step of the way and helped Rhianna manage her condition every day. She became well known within Rhianna’s medical support team and her A4 lever arch files became part of the family!
When Eleanor met her fiancée, Brad, who was also diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 11, Mum took great pleasure in sharing her knowledge further and helping in any way that she could.
Approximately 400,000 people are currently living with type 1 diabetes in the UK, with 29,000 of those being children. In children under 5, the incidence of type 1 diabetes is rising by 5% each year.
Mum was such a big support to Rhianna and her journey would have been incredibly different if she hadn’t have had the guidance, knowledge and love that Mum provided. We know that our Mum would have hated to think of any child being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and learning to live with the condition without this type of support, which is why we have chosen JDRF.
As a family, we thank you for your kind donations 💙
